We are currently recruiting for an Optomechanical Engineer with experience using SOLIDWORKS and Creo to package optical systems. This opportunity will allow you to be a part of a small team but contribute in a big way. You'll get to be on the project from the ground up and will wear many hats as a part of a small and dedicated team.

 What you'll do:

Zemax has released LensMechanix, an application for mechanical engineers who package optical systems in CAD software, including Creo and SOLIDWORKS. As an Opto-Mechanical Engineer at Zemax, you will play a key role in the success of the product. Working in a small team, you get to wear a lot of hats, and will work closely with product managers and development team.

You will become a product expert, using your knowledge to:

  • Demonstrate the software's capabilities to potential customers
  • Provide technical support to current and potential customers
  • Investigate potential bugs in the software
  • Specify and test new features for each software release
  • Speak with customers at trade shows and conferences
  • Write knowledge base articles, write tutorials, and record videos demonstrating the software's capabilities
  • Create industry or application-specific example files included in the installation files for customer use
  • Teach and create content for LensMechanix training courses


What you'll bring:

To be considered for this position, you should have a passion for problem solving and a proven ability to climb the learning curve quickly.  The ideal candidates will be outgoing and enthusiastic with demonstrated experience packaging optical systems for manufacture. Desired qualifications include:

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering or directly related field, MS preferred
  • 3 - 5 years packaging optical systems
  • 5+ years experience using 3d CAD software including Creo and SOLIDWORKS
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Desire to interact with customers, including listening to customer experiences and gathering feedback
  • Experience presenting or teaching engineers or scientists
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to distill problems down to their simplest form

In the first year, a high performer will accomplish the following:

  • Become an expert in LensMechanix, providing a positive technical support experience to customers or prospects and helping them to apply the product to solve their particular problem.  We'll hear things like "{Your name here} is AWESOME!!" or "I really appreciate the prompt help and follow through in resolving my problem.  Great customer service!" (These are real comments we have received from real customers.)
  • Create and update product documentation, identifying and closing the gaps where we can help customers or prospects better grasp the potential of our product.
  • Contribute to the technical advancement of LensMechanix through bug reporting, sharing customer experiences to help product managers develop a roadmap, and specifying and testing new features
  • Develop and teach LensMechanix courses, helping our customers succeed and adopt new workflows quickly
